in 2020 I am attempting to do a better job of memorizing the Bible – well, not the entire Bible, but at least some important verses. I have never really been very good at memorizing verses word for word. As I have read, studied and written about the Bible, I have started noticing that I will remember a vague idea of certain verses and may have a fuzzy idea of where they are from. I have also noticed that in normal conversation, I might refer to a verse in some cryptic way and sort of recite some key words, but really fail to get the message across as strongly as I could have.
As I was thinking about what 2020 would look like in my Bible study efforts, I began to think that learning some of these key verses would benefit my conversations and ultimately the people I was talking to about the Lord. My prayer is that I can at least learn and apply some of these verses. I will keep track of my journey below with the newest verse always at the top.
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! – Galatians 5:22-23
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing – 2 Timothy 4:8
8 The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God endures forever. – Isaiah 40:8
1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus – Romans 8:1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1
