Have you ever tried to give someone a gift and they wouldn’t accept it? Super Frustrating!
I think we can all think of someone close to us that fits in this category. You ask them what they want for Christmas and their standard answer is, “I don’t need anything.” So you rack your brains trying to think of what perfect thing you can give them that will bring a smile to their face. If you started thinking early in the season, you probably go back and ask them a few more times. “No, really, I don’t need anything,” they say.
So, you finally decide on the perfect thing and you wrap it in your best paper. It’s such a simple gift, but one that you know will really be great. You then let them know that they are going to be getting something on Christmas Day – multiple times! They tell you no again, but you are way past the point of taking it back – heck – you practically announced what they were getting to the world. When the day comes, you present it to them with much fanfare. Everyone around thinks it is awesome and shouts with great fanfare.
Later, you find your precious gift forgotten and left behind. It’s like they just didn’t realize what it was and how amazing it would be if they had just accepted it. You are pretty sad about it, but you know that you can regift it. Someone will accept your great gift – and really love it. It might even change their life.
The thing is, Jesus is that gift.
God painstakingly selected this most personal perfect gift just for you. He has told the entire world what He was getting you and then He gave it to you over 2,000 years ago. All you need to do is accept the gift of Jesus. Stop saying you don’t want it or need it – you do. We all do. It will be the best gift you have ever received. It will change your life.
